Do you have an app for mobile phones?

Unfortunately, we are not currently compatible with phones. We do have plans to release a product shortly. It's currently under development. If you would like to be added to our notification list for when we release, please let us know by sending your email address and a short note to support@abine.com

Why do I see more cookies added to my browser?

Those cookies are what we call opt-out cookies. They protect you from targeted advertising because when these cookies are in place, websites are unable to put their own trackers. They signal to advertisers that you want to opt-out of receiving target advertising (it's like the "Do Not Call" list for targeted advertising). While regular cookies tell websites information about your online behavior, opt-out cookies tell advertising companies that you *don't want* to receive targeted advertising. They're the same cookies for everybody, so they can't be used to track you, and we keep them from getting deleted to ensure maximum opt-outs.

Please see this page for more info: http://abine.com/optout/

What do the red, yellow, and green toolbar icons mean?

    • The red icon means that you are being followed or watched. It means that we've found potential threats at this page which are unblocked by our software.
    • The yellow icon means to surf with caution. It is used on sites that are tracking you, even though they may look safe. You might not see any tracking companies in the alert window, but your information is being collected. This is usually seen on social networking sites which you might think are otherwise harmless.
    • Green means the site is safe or that you're blocking all the trackers we found.

How do I know that DNT+ won't track me?

To put it simply, we don't track you at all. We only know that you're using Do Not Track Plus. We know nothing else about you. All the blocking rules are local on your machine. Your machine will ping us periodically for updated blocking rules, but that's it. All we know is that once a day, your browser asks us if it needs new rules or a new version of Do Not Track Plus. That's the only interaction we have.

If you're interested in seeing exactly what traffic is being sent to and from your browser, we recommend an add-on called Live HTTP Headers:

Do you conflict with AdBlockPlus, BetterPrivacy, or Ghostery?

You can use AdBlock Plus with Do Not Track Plus. We block different things than AdBlock Plus since they are removing advertisements, while we are removing tracking code. It's also safe to use BetterPrivacy at the same time as Do Not Track Plus. They mostly delete LSO and longterm cookies.

Do Not Track Plus is closest in similarity to Ghostery. We do not recommend using these together.

What do I do if a website or a video breaks?

If you notice that a website isn't working properly with DNT+ enabled, it's probably because that site requires some tracking in order to function correctly. You can usually resolve this easily by clicking the toolbar icon. In the alert window, toggle the ON/OFF button to the OFF position. When the page is reloaded, all tracking will be allowed.

If instead you want more control, we recommend unblocking the trackers one by one so that you can determine which company needs to be allowed. In this way, you can maintain the maximum level of protection.
